The United People’s Freedom Alliance has secured a significant victory in both Monaragala and Badulla Districts after pooling some 349,906 (51.2%) votes and securing 19 of 34 seats.

The United National Party (UNP) obtained some 274,773 votes (40.24%) and managed to secure 13 seats from the two districts.

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) secured two seat after obtaining 36,580 votes (5.36%).

Party  Seats

UPFA   19

UNP    13

JVP      2

Total   34

Meanwhile the Democratic Unity Alliance, a coalition of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and All Ceylon People’s Congress (ACPC), received 10,627 votes (1.56%) in the Badulla and Monaragala Districst, however failed to secure any seats.

Minister Wimal Weerawansa’s National Freedom Front (NFF) and Sarath Fonseka’s Democratic Party (DP) also failed to secure any seats in the both district despite receiving 4,835 and 6,076 votes, respectively.

The final district results show a clear victory for the ruling party in the 2014 Uva Provincial Council election, which was widely seen as a crucial test for the party ahead of Presidential polls scheduled for next year.

Uva is widely seen as a bastion of support for the governing party, which won 72 percent of the vote in the 2009 provincial elections and secured 25 of 34 seats in the Provincial Assembly.
