The Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Monday warned the government a full scale hartal would be organized if the the local government election is not held without further delay.

PHU leader Udaya Gammanpila made the observation while speaking to reporters at a press conference held in Colombo.

“It will be a full scale hartal, and will be a massive than the one held in 1953,” he added.

Gammanpila also pointed out preliminary steps to organize the hartal is being taken at the moment.

The MP also charged former Army Commander and Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka of withholding evidence in connection with the death of newspaper editor Lasantha Wickrematunge.

Gammanpila said, Fonseka’s statement to police that Major General Hendawitharana was behind the attack proves that the former Army Commander intentionally withheld evidence relating to the murder.
