“Maithree tenure – a sustainable era” was marked as the five year approach of the economical and cultural renaissance where old Laggala town which was submerged under Moragahakanda Kalugaga reservoir was replaced by the new Laggala green city. President Maithripala Sirisena vested the new Laggala town with the people.
The other huge reservoir belonging to Moragahakanda reservoir which is the Kalugaga Reservoir was also vested with the people by the President.
The most essential services are available in the new Laggla for 3000 families displaced by the Moragahakanda Kalugaga project. The new Laggala city has been built with an investment of Rs.4500 million under the new golden city concept.
Buildings were constructed for 26 public offices with easy access to the people. The Laggala new Divisional Secretariat, Hospital and the Pallegama Central College were also declared open by the President.
The new town also comprises of police station, sports stadium, market, central bus stand, Govi Jana Sewa Centre, post office, health centre, road systems, and other public services and public infrastructure.
A number of ministers also attended the ceremonies to vest the Laggala facilities with the people.
