‘Fishy’ Minister creates to turmoil at Fisheries Corporation

The Fisheries Corporation staff has locked up the Corporation Chairman, Vice Chairman and Executive Director inside a room due a dispute that arose over two confiscated containers of fish. According to the Nidhahas Sevaka Sangamaya a top government minister had come along with his entourage and tried to claim the consignment of fish.
When the employees had objected to the ‘Fishy’ Minister a heated argument had arises. The Corporation had then decided to quell the situation by giving the fish stock over to the Minister. Due to this move the employees had locked up the corporation hierarchy and had begun a protest.
Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senarathe made a policy decision to avoid importing fish as a move to protect local fishermen leading to two imported containers of fish being confiscated and handed over to the Fisheries Corporation. The Corporation had then decided to sell the fish as they did not possess the necessary storage and freezer facilities.
