Several Tamil political parties met at Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) leader V. Anandasangaree’s residence at Kilinochchi this morning, said Surendran of Sri TELO faction.
Among those who took part were Eealam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) leader Douglas Devananda, Eelam Peoples Revolutionary Liberation Front’s Varadharaja Perumal, Tamil Makkal Vidudalai Puligal (TMVP) District Organiser P. Prashanthan, Tamil National Liberation front leader M.K. Shivajilingam and People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam’s (PLOTE) Udayan.
TMVP’s Mr. Prashanthan said the group discussed several problems faced by the Tamils, especially in the North and East.
Among the problems discussed at this meeting were the difficulties faced in obtaining the death certificates of war victims and obtaining the birth certificates of newborns during the conflict.
Among those reported missing, those who had not returned after five years should be recognized as dead. The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna had stipulated a two year time limit, P. Prashanthan said.
Another concern was that only the former Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) members were being accommodated in the government’s and other Non Governmental Organisations’ programmes. The group discussed how they could take these issues with the government, Mr. Prashanthan said.
TNLF leader M.K. Shivajilingam told Adaderana that the plight of the Internally Displaced Persons still in camps and affected by the monsoonal rains in the area were also discussed along with their land issues.
