Central Provincial Council members of the United National Party (UNP) staged a walkout from the Provincial Council sessions held today at Pallekele. All the CPC members of the UNP attended the sessions today wearing black armbands in protest to the imprisonment of former Army commander Sarath Fonseka.

One provincial council member from the opposition and two from the government party was nominated today in order to assist the Deputy Chairman in the absence of the chairman. S. Sathasivam was nominated by the UNP but due to him attending Parliament wearing a black armband along with fellow UNP members the Chairman of the Central Provincial Council, Saliya Bandara Disanayake asked that someone else be nominated generally instead.

In protest to this decision taken by the Chairman the UNP members of the CPC walked out from the Provincial Council premises in Pallekele, said Ada Derana reporter.
