Nipunaarachchi’s name sent to be gazette as MP

The name of Lakshman Nipunaarachchi had been sent to the Elections Commissioner to be gazette as an MP for Sarath Fonseka’s vacant seat, Returning Officer Colombo District told Ada Derana.

 

DNA Leader Sarath Fonseka lost his parliamentary seat yesterday due to imprisonment. According to general election regulations if a Member of Parliament loses his parliament seat the next person from the same party who got the highest preferential votes in the District receives the seat.

 

From the Colombo District Sarath Fonseka and Sunil Handunnettiwere were elected to parliament and next in line according to preferential votes from the DNA is Nipunarachchi.
