CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi today met Congress President Sonia Gandhi here and raised the issue of early rehabilitation of the displaced Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Speaking to reporters here after calling on UPA chairperson Gandhi, who was en route to Puducherry and Tiruchirappali to attend a public rally, Karunanidhi said he had submitted a memorandum to Sonia and she had assured him of taking action.

“It was a brief meeting. We discussed the Sri Lankan Tamils issue and I presented a memorandum to her,” he said.

Asked whether the two leaders discussed anything pertaining to alliance for the coming Assembly polls, Karunanidhi, who is also DMK president, said they did not as there was no need for it. In a recent interview Karunanidhi’s arch rival and AIADMK Chief Jayalalithaa had urged Congress to walk out of the “corrupt” DMK alliance. – (PTI)
