The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) says it has received complaints of unlicensed employment agencies island-wide. It seeks the assistance of the public to enable necessary inquiries. The complaints against illegal job agencies and related persons could be lodged by dialing ‘1989’, says the Bureau’s chairman.

Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka said that some 58 agencies owners were taken into custody along with 1,800 passports being held by them illegally during the last nine months.

Recently, such an agency operating in the Maligakanda area in Maradana had been raided and 261 passports being held illegally were recovered, said Mr. Ranawaka.
