The Inter Universities Students’ Federation (IUSF) accused the government of conspiring to evict male students from hostels within the university premises in order to eradicate a student uprising. Its convenor Udul Premaratne stated that the country’s student movement will never allow the government to carryout such acts.
Speaking to Ada Derana Udul
Premaratne said the revolutionary movement being carried out by university
student is posing a great threat to the current government, thus they are
attempting to put a stop to this by throwing out students from universities.
Furthermore he challenged Higher Education Minister SB Disanayake to try and evict students from the hostels of at least one university if he can. “If this happens we will get together and take action to throw out SB Dissanayake from his Ministry” the convenor emphasized.
However when Ada Derana questioned the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Nandimithra Ekanayakeon the matter he stated that, no such decision has been made by the Ministry of higher Education or the University Grants Commission (UGC) and that such a decision would be unjust.
