A compartment of the Colombo bound
train traveling from Kaluthara has derailed a short while ago at SlaveIsland.
Three bystanders were injured due to the derailment, Commercial Superintendent
of Railways Vijaya Samarasinghe said.
The injured, said to have been occupying one of the shanty
houses built alongside the railway track at SlaveIsland,
have been rushed to the hospital. Mr. Samarasinghestated that the train schedule will not be greatly affected due to the
derailment, however their will be a slight delay.
Ha further added that the compartment is currently being restored
and that trains will temporarily be traveling only on one track.
