Earlier United National Party (UNP) strongman John
Amaratunga said even if he is chopped he will still be green (kepuwath kola).
But a few days earlier he had said the he will not be green if he is chopped.
This shows that he too is considering his position in the party, said Social
Services Minister Felix Perera.
During a ceremony this morning at the Nivandama Sri
Nigrodharama Pirivena in Ja Ela, UNP Parliamentarian Joseph Michael Perera said
that the need of the hour was political unity. Everyone should unite
politically, religiously and forge ahead with the current development, he said.
However, this does not mean everyone should cross-over to the government, he added.
In reply to Mr. Perera’s statement at the function,
Minister Felix Perera said the ‘kepuwath kola’ story, and suggested that soon,
even John Amaratunga may join the government.
