Cigarette haul worth Rs.35M nabbed

The Sri Lanka Department of Excise has managed to affectively apprehend a stock of illegally imported cigarettes worth some Rs. 35 Million. The Departments Spokesman Prabhath Jayawickrama stated that the stock of cigarettes was being transported by two Lorries when it was seized.

 

The Excise Department said, information has been uncovered that the shipment of cigarettes was brought to the country from Dubai and two persons including a businessman have been arrested for allegedly being involved in the smuggling racket.

 

Prabhath Jayawickrama further added that the arrests were made after a long period of investigations and inquiries were made by the Department of Excise.
