A wildfire raging since last night on the Hunnasgiriya Hills of the Knuckles Range has already destroyed about 160 acres, says Hunnasgiriya Police Inspector Samantha Perera.

IP Samantha Perera also said that due to the strong winds in the area a Sri Lanka Air Force helicopter which attempted to extinguish the fire had to be turned back.

Damages to inhabitants have been not reported yet and Police with the assistance of the public are attempting to control the fire spreading, added IP Perera.
