Four sailors from the Sri Lanka Navy have been taken into custody for alleged involvement in a fraud over the supply of fuel. They have been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said Navy media spokesman Captain Athula Senarath.

The arrest is a result of a long period of monitoring by a special committee appointed by the Sri Lanka Navy, the spokesman said.

Though Captain Senarath did not divulge the amount involved, sources say it runs into millions of rupees and that these four sailors have been carrying on this fuel ‘business’ over a long period of time.
