300,000 land mines cleared – Army Spokesman

Army spokesman Major General Ubaya Medawala says that the Army has defused 305,376 land mines so far in recently liberated areas in the country. The Army has cleared an area of 1,861 square kilometers of Northern Province of land mines.


Around 1,000 Army officials are engaged in de-mining operations together with non-state organizations, Army says. He also said that the de-mining in the heavily mined lands in Mullaitivu district had been commenced.
