VIDEO: It’s not illegal to create awareness, discourse – Mervyn

To develop the county strong measures have to be taken, Deputy Highways Minister Mervyn Silva said in an exclusive Glass Box interview with Ada Derana. When queried about the incident where the Minister tied a Samurdhi official to a tree he said that he did so to create hype and awareness on dengue.

 

After what I did dengue patients reduced island wide, Mervyn said. When asked if what he did was illegal Mervyn claimed that creating awareness and discourse regarding a dengue is not illegal.

 

Mervyn went on to state that the ancient laws that applied during the time of Kings still apply a today. He added that those days the village leader punished an offender by tying him to the ‘dandu kanda’. That law is still valid today, he said.
