Real-life sentence for tele-actress

November 8, 2010   08:57 pm

A tele-drama actress who pleaded guilty to shoplifting at a popular apparel outlet in Colombo has been sentenced to six months rigorous imprisonment, suspended for one year.

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court imposed the sentence on actress Udari Warnakulasuriya when the case was taken up for hearing today, reported our courts correspondent.

Ms. Warnakulasuriya’s counsel pleaded that courts impose a fine instead of a sentence as she was involved in the field of arts.

Colombo Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli rejected the request and imposed the sentence on her.

Udari Warnakulasuriya was taken into custody by the Cinnamon Gardens Police and produced in courts for shoplifting of apparel valued at around Rs. 12,000 from a popular outlet near Town Hall.
