Sri Lanka Boxer Manju Wanniarachchi’s ‘B Sample’ has also been tested positive, however the Sri Lanka Boxing Federation says that they will challenge the result.
The boxer who won the gold medal in the 56 kg Bantam weight category at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi tested positive for the performance-enhancing steroid nandrolone, in the ‘A Sample’ test according to a report sent to Colombo by organisers of the New Delhi Games.
However Sri Lankan sports chiefs who had confiscated the gold medal won by boxer had stated that no action will be taken against Manju until the ‘B Sample’ proves him guilty. They also gave him two weeks to answer to the doping charges.
It had been announced previously that the boxer will face a two-year ban and will be stripped of his medal if his ‘B Sample’ test proves positive.
The 30 year old pugilist created history by becoming the second Sri Lankan to capture a boxing gold medal at the Games by beating rival Sean McGoldrick of Wales
