His intention is to make the local university student not only a local scholar, but an internationally recognized scholar, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Sri Lanka’s universities should be made the research centres of a future developed nation, the President added.
Nobody in the world can undermine the inherent capabilities, courage and commitment of the Sri Lankans, said President Rajapaksa while addressing the gathering during the opening of an international standard swimming pool at the Sri Jayawardenepura University this evening (November 15).
If the country is to be developed, the universities should produce a complete degree holder, the President said.
The present government has doe away with the era when intellectuals and scientists were manacled into subservience. Instead it has paved the way for them to surge forwards, President Rajapaksa added.
When some were attacking the government with vengeance, jealousy and hatred, he would never forget the support the intellectuals from the universities had given him, President Mahinda Rajapaksa reiterated.
This evening, President Rajapaksa declared open the 10 lane swimming pool, which the President’s Media Unit said is the largest in Sri Lanka, constructed by the ‘Tharunyata Hetak’ organization.
