Roads towards Galle Face close tomorrow

Several roads leading towards Galle Face and the Presidential Secretariat will be closed tomorrow (November 19) from 6.00 am to 2.00 pm. This closure is due to the President being sworn in for his second term at the Presidential Secretariat, says Police spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody.


The roads thus closed will be as follows:

1. Galle Road from Kollupitiya Junction up to the Presidential Secretariat.
2. Road from Fort Railway Station up to Lake House Roundabout and Lotus Road.
3. Road from Pettah to Fort from Khan Clock Tower, Layden Bastion Mw, Chatham St, Lower Chatham St, Lower Lotus Rd, Bristol Street, York Street, Lotus Road up to Bank Avenue.
4. Chittampalam A. Gardiner Mawatha from Slave Island Police roundabout to Lake House Roundabout.
5. Justice Akbar Mawatha and Macan Markar Mawatha up to Galle Face from Slave Island Junction.
6. Sir James Peiris Mw, Nawam Mw, Uttarananda Mw up to Slave Island.
7. Green Path (Ananda Coomaraswamy Mw) from Horton Place Roundabout up to Public Library Junction.
8. F.R. Senanayake Mw, Dharmapala Mw up to C.W.W. Kannangara Mw (Opposite CMC)

Meanwhile, DIG Traffic and Road Safety Ashoka Wijetilleke says that vehicles entering the city of Colombo will be diverted at the following points:

Heavy vehicles proceeding towards Colombo will be diverted right at Dickman’s Road in Bambalapitiya and allowed to proceed via Havelock Roads towards the city.

Light vehicles will be diverted at Kollupitiya Junction to proceed along Dharmapala Mawatha towards Colombo.


Special teams of Traffic Police personnel will be deployed along the roads to assist the motorists, says DIG Wijetilleke.
