Lebanese couple deported for participating in anti-government protest

A Lebanese couple that had been on a tour of Sri Lanka has been deported from the country today morning, the Department of Immigration and Emigration said. The couple is said to have taken part in a rally opposing the government.


Immigration and Emigration Controller Chulananda Perera said that the necessary measures had been taken to send them back to Lebanon, after they had received a report from the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) regarding the duo.


The CID had reported to us that the Lebanese couple, who had entered the country on tourist visas, had participated in a certain anti-government rally while in the country, he added.


Therefore they had been deported back to Lebanon at around 2am today (20 November) in an aircraft belonging to Qatar Airways.
