Contingent of 150 ready for Lebanon

Necessary preparations have been made to deploy a contingent of 150 Army personnel to Lebanon in order to join the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces (Blue Beret). The officers are scheduled to leave the island at the end of the month (November), Military Spokesman Major General Ubaya Medawala said.


While 8 officers and 91 soldiers from the Mechanical Infantry Regiment will join the group, the remainder will include fellow officers representing other regiments.


Troops from the Special Forces, the Commandos, Military Police, Army Engineer Battalion, Medical Battalion, the Engineer Services Regiment (ESR) and several other Battalions will be represented.
