CMC spends over Rs. 2 million to collect garbage a day

The Colombo Municipal Council spends Rs. 2,171,303 a day to collect and dispose garbage, Local Government and Provincial Councils Deputy Minister Indika Bandaranayaka revealed in parliament today. He added that 700 metric tons of garbage is removed from Colombo.

 

Bandaranayaka said this in reply to a verbal question raised in parliament by UNP MP Ravi Karunanayaka today. Bandaranayake also stated that three private companies are being used to collect the waste and currently garbage is collected thrice a day.

 

However UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekara who stood up at this juncture claimed that another Senior Minister should be appointed for the collection of garbage.
