A 106 year old and still unopened safe has been discovered at a building belonging to the Colombo General Hospital. The safe had been discovered while Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena had attended the opening ceremony of the Lithotripsy Unit of the hospital’s Renal Unit.
The Health Minister had inquired officials present at the time regarding the safe, however nobody had known anything about it and what it contained, Health Ministry says.
It had then been revealed that the building had originally belonged to a hospital which had operated at the time of British rule in the country, and also that it housed several items of historical value.
Minister Maithripala Sirisena had advised the officials to open and search the safe, which did not have any keys to be opened with, by any means necessary.
