Youth Parliament election today

The poll of the Youth Parliament Election, which is being held today (27 November), is currently taking place at 331 voting centers spread across the country, Youth Affairs and Skill Development Minister Dullus Alahapperuma said.


The names of 1395 candidates have been received for the election. Young men and women under every Assistant Government agent office (Divisional Secretariat), except the Pudumathalan – East AGA office, are scheduled to take part in the election, he expressed.


The Minister pointed out that once the ballot is over and completed the counting of votes will begin at the same venues. Therefore it will be possible to reveal the overall results and the list of elected members by 7.00pm today, he stated.


This will be a historical election for the Youth parliament, Minister Dullus Alahapperuma added.


Over 300, 000 young voters from some 10, 000 Youth Clubs around Sri Lanka have gained the required qualification to elect there respective divisional representatives to the Youth Parliament, he said.
