Speaking on the U.S. stand on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, the United States Ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer gave an account of his government’s help to Sri Lanka in rehabilitation of internally displaced persons.
Addressing a press conference at the American International School in Chennai yesterday (December 03) he said that U.S. wants Sri Lanka to move towards reconciliation, greater peace and prosperity.
When questioned by an Indian reporter, as to why no arrests have been made regarding alleged human rights violations during the civil war in Sri Lanka, the ambassador stated that he has no right to issue a statement regarding issues of Sri Lanka.
However, he said that only the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka has the authority to look in to those said affairs and that Ambassador is doing so.
