Living standard and education policy must go hand-in-hand – Anura Kumara

DNA MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake today said that a ten year plan was needed to develop the higher education in Sri Lanka. Anura Kumara claimed that it is unfortunate to talk about a national education policy without considering the living status of the masses.

Anura Kumara today in parliament went on to explain that the normal cost for five years degree programme at a private university was approximately Rs. 90 million. However he claimed that the normal daily wage for 41% of the Sri Lankan population was less that US $2.

All this while what was happening was a brain drain from Sri Lanka to foreign nations, however with the introduction of private universities in Sri Lanka there will be an internal brain drain, Dissanayake claimed.
