Somali pirates release tanker with Lankan crew

Somali pirates released an oil tanker owned by Saudi Arabia seized in early March in the Gulf of Aden.  On board were a crew consisting of 13 citizens of Sri Lanka and one citizen of Greece. The amount of the ransom that was paid to the pirates is unknown.

 

The tanker which has a capacity of 5.14 thousand tons was seized on March 3 in the Gulf of Aden.

 

The vessel was sailing from Japan to Jiddah which is located on the west coast of Saudi Arabia.

 

The pirates demanded 20 million dollars for the release of the ship.
