CAA to raid shops selling rice above max price

Raids will be conducted on retail shops that sell rice above the Maximum retail price, Consumer Affairs Authority(CAA) said that this will be done under the direction of the Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando. The maximum retail price for Samba rice will be Rs. 70 while the max retail price for Nadu, White and Red rice will be Rs. 60 with effect from today.
The Internal Trade Ministry had removed the maximum retail price of Rs.70 per
kilogram of rice on October 26, 2010 stating that no price ceiling was needed
due to rice prices coming down in the market.
