Sumana Thero to be released on bail

The Colombo High Court today ordered the release of Ven. Uwathenne Sumana Thero on bail. The Ven. Thero was arrested before the last Presidential election for the alleged illegal possession of explosives and other arms.
The government attorney Yohan Liyanage addressing the court today announced that the Attorney General had no objection towards releasing the Thero on bail. He also produced a letter to the court confirming that statement.
After considering the relevant material Colombo High Court Judge Deepali Wijesundara ordered that Ven. Uwathenne Sumana Thero be released on a cash bail of Rs. 100,000 and also a split personal bail of rupees one million each.
On November 10, 2010 the Colombo Magistrate’s Court had ordered that Sumana Thero be kept in remand custody until March 29, 2011.
