Munchee & Ritzbury win FMCG category gold awards at The World Brand Congress - 2010 in Mumbai

Munchee and Ritzbury two of Sri Lanka’s popular home grown brands from Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL) won two prestigious awards at the recently concluded Global Awards for Brand Excellence during the World Brand Congress ‘10 in Mumbai. Munchee & Ritzbury were the only two brands that secured awards under the FMCG category, facing competition from leading brands including multi national brands from many countries, while positioning Sri Lanka strongly in the world brand map and earning glory to the country.
World Brand Congress (WBC) is the single largest convention of the finest brains behind some of the world’s most successful and sought after brands and a meeting place for over 500 branding and marketing elite from every product/service category representing every continent. WBC is an annual event where world’s leading brands are showcased for awards while workshops and seminars are conducted for the brand custodians on the changing ‘brandscape’ across the world.
The delighted Group Director / Head of Marketing & Sales for CBL, Mr. Nandana Wickramage said “the recognition at the WBC is a testimonial for the arduous journey Munchee & Ritzbury has had and the triumphs they have achieved throughout their journey.” Wickramage is in the view that the Sri Lankan brandscape is going through an interesting phase with a healthy mix of popular international brands and some very successful local home grown brands, which are rapidly emerging in many categories. He further said, “The World Brand Congress was a lively platform for a healthy debate and exchange of ideas to build stronger, resilient and more competitive brands capable of succeeding on a global platform.” Wickramage also won an award for Brand Leadership, which is conferred to individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution towards development and sustainability of brands.
The
thrilled Asst. General Manager (Marketing – Munchee) Ms. Theja Peiris said “WBC
was a wholesome learning experience where the team had the opportunity to
acquire knowledge to launch our brands to the next level to satisfy the
consumer. As Sri Lanka steps into an improved economic platform, consumption
and consumer buying will move to a higher gear. Marketing will become both
intense and complex, as it is makes newer propositions to the consumer.
In this context, World Brand Congress is a great platform for senior marketing
professionals to engage, interact, and exchange thoughts and ideas to navigate
through the challenges of the new economic order.
