LTTE may attack Indian PM – Indian Inteligence

December 15, 2010   09:44 pm

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunandhi are on the hit-list of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Sources have told CNN-IBN that Intelligence Bureau has warned that LTTE might attack Singh and Karunanidhi when the Prime Minister visits Tamil Nadu in January 2011.

The sources claim that some LTTE terrorists have entered India through the southern coast and are hiding in Tamil Nadu.

Manmohan Singh is likely to be targeted by the LTTE so that the terrorist organisation can show that it is still active. Sources say there are many LTTE sympathisers in Tamil Nadu with some politicians in the state, too, having a soft corner for the organisation.

Tamil Nadu Director General of Police Letika Saran said that they have received the alert and were taking all precautions.

“Yes we got the message but message or no message we take all precautions for all VVIPS. This intelligence input from Central agencies is about a plan to attack the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. This is about intentions. We are on high alert and all this time we are extra alert. But we have no information about regrouping of LTTE cadres,” Letika said.

The terrorist organisation is trying to regroup following its rout by the Sri Lankan military on 2009 and the killing of its supreme V Prabhakaran in May 2009.

The LTTE has already assassinated former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. Rajiv Gandhi was killed in Sriperumbudur on May 21, 1991 during an election campaign, Indian media reports.
