Ignoring weather, cause of mine collapse

The mine pit in Kirinda, Matara that collapsed on December 16, leaving two persons dead was caused due to mining being carried out without proper attention being paid towards weather conditions, the National Gem and Jewellery Authority states.
However the Gem and Jewellery Authority said that compensation will be presented to the family members of the deceased as well as to those affected by the accident.
Therefore the parents of Pushpitha Udayanga(23) and Abeywickrema Liyanarachchige Chanaka(20), who succumbed to injuries following the collapsing of the gem mine will be compensated with Rs. 100,000.
Also the three individuals who were injured in the incident will be presented with compensation of Rs.10, 000 each, the authority said.
