The government will build an additional 1000 schools within the next three years in order to relieve some of the growing demand for parents to put their children into the top schools in Colombo, Education Minister, Bandula Gunawardena said.
The government is also looking to make a few amendments to the existing system by allowing students who fail Math at their Ordinary Level Examinations to proceed to the Advanced Level classes and sit for subjects other than Math.
The National Education Commission is also looking to establish an Act to abolish Grade 5 scholarship exams as it is an unwanted burden on young students and parents.
Furthermore, the Education Ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs will look to provide education and training opportunities to students who fail their O/L or A/L examinations.
