It is the duty and responsibility of all Sri Lankans to respect the religions of others while honouring their own, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne stated. The government does not give precedence to any religion or community he added.

The Prime Minister said that all religions teach the noble principle of moulding responsible citizens in the society and that people should separate themselves from petty politics in order to unite in the aim of developing the nation holistically.
