Construction on four power stations halted

The Coordination Committee of the Kegalle District has opted to suspend the construction of four power stations in the Kegalle District with immediate effect.

The decision had been made following a meeting by the committee yesterday which was headed by the Chief Minister of the Sabaragamuwa Province Mahipala Herath and Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.

Hence constructions on the Amanawala, Berannawa, Mallapola and Morantota private power stations in the Yatiyantota electorate have been suspended.

The decision had been made due to several objections being raised by the public stating that environmental factors were not considered during the building of these power stations.
