After the end of the war the majority of deaths in the country occur due to road accidents, President of the National Council for Road Safety Mano Wijeratne. More than five people die from road accidents daily, he pointed out.

He expressed this during a media briefing held today (December 24) to inform the media about the special facilities provided to the public for the upcoming festive season.

Wijeratne further stated that the support of the public is needed in order to prevent road accidents, just as the public gathered to fight against the spread of the dengue epidemic in the recent past.
