Increase in accidents during Christmas

The number of accidents that have been reported with the dawn of Christmas shows a significant growth compared to last year. Within the 24 hours that ended at 8 am today (December 25) a total of 298 people have received treatment from the Outpatient Department, Dr. Prasad Ariyawansa states.


Presently 91 persons have been admitted to the hospital due to various accidents and are receiving medical treatment, the Deputy Director of the Accident Services of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka said.


Compared to last years there is an increase in patients who were involved in road accidents, he pointed out.


According to the doctor within the past 24 hours two patients were treated for burn wounds suffered from firecrackers, while three persons who were involved in a brawl were also treated.
