UPFA party leaders to meet today

The political party leaders representing the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) are scheduled to meet in Colombo today (December 31) in regard to the upcoming Local Government elections.


Discussions will be held regarding the selection of candidates to the relevant election, preparations for the election and several other points, UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha expressed.


The government has decided to hold the upcoming Local Government election under a proportional representation system.


The Local Government election amendment bill is scheduled to be presented to Parliament on January 04, the Minister stated.
