New Year brings increase in accidents

Within the 24 hours that ended at midnight yesterday 228 patients have entered the Colombo National Hospital to receive medication for injuries caused by various accidents. The number is a drastic increase compared to figures from last year, says Dr. Hector Weerasinghe.


The Director of the Colombo National Hospital said that 11 individuals had been treated for burn wounds from firecrackers.


Meanwhile 21 people were admitted to the Kalubowila Hospital within the hours of midnight yesterday (December 31) and 8.00 am today of which 8 had suffered injuries due to firecrackers, according to Dr, Anil Jasinghe.


He also added that within 24 hours (as of midnight yesterday) a total of 133 were treated at the hospital while 30 of them were admitted.
