January 9, 2011   02:31 pm

Private bus owners have decided to take part in a token strike within the Western Province starting from midnight tomorrow (January 10). It has been stated that the strike will be staged for one whole day while the decision had been taken at a meeting of bus unions today.

The strike will be carried out demanding for a Rs. 1 increase in the minimum bus fare, the unions conveyed. It has been stated that the token strike is being staged by the Lanka Private Bus Owner’s Association (LPBOA) and the All Ceylon Private Bus Owners’ Association.

However the LPBOA had previously stated that they intend to postpone the island wide bus strike which was scheduled to take place on January 11 due to the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority giving in to one of their primary demands.
