Prosecutors in the German city of Paderborn have charged three suspects including a Sri Lankan in a brutal attack nine months ago on a Syrian Orthodox bishop. A 36-year-old Syrian, as well as two 33-year-olds from Turkey and Sri Lanka, are accused of attempted murder, robbery and assault.
Bishop Julius Hanna Aydin was attacked in his office last April. The perpetrators gagged and hit the cleric, who is affiliated with the Warburg monastery, and cut off his long white beard.
All three accused are from the city of Wiesbaden, east of Frankfurt.
