Private bus owners say they will engage in a one day token strike within the Western Province starting from midnight today (January 10). The bus strike is being staged jointly by the Lanka Private Bus Owner’s Association (LPBOA) and the All Ceylon Private Bus Owners’ Association.
Speaking in regard to this the President of the LPBOA, Gemunu Wijeratne stated that they previously intended to stage an island wide strike, however had later decided to restrict it to the Western Province only.
Gemunu Wijeratne urged the public not to view this from a wrong perspective and explained that it is the politicians that are responsible for the strike.
Transport Minister Kumara Welgama had however firmly stated that he is prepared to face any form of strike.
