832, 000 affected by heavy showers

The Disaster Management Center reveals that some 832, 000 people have been affected or fallen victim to adverse weather conditions. The number of human casualties has risen to 13 people while another 24 persons have been injured, the center reported.
937 houses have been completely destroyed while some 4,000 have received minor damages as a result of the weather conditions experienced in several parts of the country.
Presently 215 camps have been set up islandwide for the displaced people and it is said that around 9,000 people are occupying these camps.
The DMC stated that the Batticaloa District was the worst hit by the bad weather. Approximately 482,000 persons have been affected in the Batticaloa District alone.
