The government should be held responsible for the increase in crimes such as robbery, rape and kidnapping in the Northern Province as it is happening in accordance with its agenda, Convenor of the Inter-University Students Federation Udul Premaratne said.

In the face of growing crime rates in the North the armed forces have distributed leaflets to inform the public to take care of their own safety while also seeking their assistance in apprehending the criminals involved in these crimes and handing them to the police.

He further asked the Media to expose the problems in the North and the grievances of the Tamil people living there as the government media institutions have stifled the voices of the people in the North.
