Rehabilitation program for imprisoned drug addicts

A special program to rehabilitate prisoners who have been imprisoned for drug abuse related cases is currently in progress. The program implemented by the government is being carried out jointly by the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) and the Department of Prisons.
Speaking to Ada Derana regarding the program the Director General of the Dangerous Drugs Control Board, K. Gamage said that all necessary arrangements have been made to begin the primary phase of the program at the Weerawila Prison premises on January 23.
We intend to treat, rehabilitate and offer occupational training to the 900 or so admitted in the rehabilitation center, he further emphasized and added that the program will be taken to the Badulla and Kandy premises within a short period.
Meanwhile a special program has also been setup to rehabilitate those under the age of 20 who are addicted to drugs. A separate treatment and rehabilitation center for those individuals is currently open, he revealed.
