AI probe call: frivolous and mischievous - Jayasekara

Responding to Amnesty International who urged the United States to launch a war crimes investigation into Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapakse, who is on a private visit to the country, Director General of President’s media and spokesman Bandula Jayasekara speaking to Ada Derana said that, “it is frivolous and mischievous.”

He added that the president is on a private visit and will be back in Sri Lanka in a few days.

Amnesty said in a statement the US had an obligation under international law to investigate Rajapakse as he was commander-in-chief of a military accused of rights violations.

Rajapakse left for the US on Wednesday with Foreign Minister Gamini Lakshman Peiris for what his officials said was a private visit.
