Twenty two prisoners of the Anuradhapura Prison have begun a protest on one of the building roofs against certain court decisions that had been given concerning their bail, Prisons Commissioner V. R. De Silva told Ada Derana.
The disgruntled prisoners were protesting against the regulation that a government servant earning a salary of more than Rs.15000 had to sign for their bail. Although these prisoners had already been granted bail by the courts they are still being kept in prison due to this requirement not being filled.
Other sources revealed that the protest was actually concerning the newly appointed prison Warden while the Prisons Commissioner said that the protestors could be disgruntled by the lawful manner in which the new Warden was operating in.
