An immense protest is currently taking place against the closing of the 18 Bend Mahiyangana Pass, popularly referred to as the “Daha ata wangu” road. Protestors emphasize that the closing of the road has caused severe difficulties to the people living in surrounding areas.

They also say that the relevant authorities have still not notified the reason behind closing the road.

Closing the Kandy- Mahiyangana main road from the 18 Bend Pass has caused a hindrance to the people of 72 Grama Niladhari divisions in the Ududumbara police division, said Salinda Disanayake Chairman of the ‘Organization to Protect Dumbara’ while participating in the protest today.

He pleaded that attention be drawn towards this issue immediately and that the road be reopened.
